It seems a bit counterintuitive to be overly concerned with total cost of ownership when purchasing a $50,000 SUV or a $56,000 sedan, but bragging rights are bragging rights and if there is anyway the press can find to distiguish small facts and figures, it seems the manufacturers will exploit them.
Automotive value analysis/cost of ownership company IntelliChoice.com and automotive marekting firm AutoPacific have apparently decided that weren't enough industry awards recognizing things like owner satisfaction and cost of ownership and therefore have teamed up to create another somewhat arbitrary category for OEMs to compete.
In their first annual Motorist's Choice Awards, they have named the 2006 Inifinti QX56 the overall winner in the newly recognized driver satisfaction/cost of ownership segment. The 2006 Lexus LS 430 came in at a close second to clean up the sedan category.
That you could operate and maintain a fleet of lesser Nissans and Toyotas for the price of either of these vehicles, I guess, misses the point. I have heard that it "takes money to make money," but I had no idea how much it costs to save it (money).
