Some interesting service-related news to come down the pike recently include:
"How to make your car pay you"
OK, if you a bit leary of the title (as we were), this is another article from the guys at another site talking about the virtues of a dedicated service & maintenance campaign with your vehicle. Interesting, this article includes regular washing, waxing and more cosmetic servicing (to help deter corrosion, etc) as part of that program to get the most bang for your buck. The car doesn't actually work as some sort of mobile cash machine, of course, and they don't provide specifics in the empirical evidence, but the argument that people can save up to an additional $20,000 over the length of an average-priced vehicle and stat that they saved $600 for every $100 spent are very compelling.
Fix those scratches early:
Here is an article that also touts the idea of regular cleaning, but is really about the importance of addressing those annoying scratches as quickly as possible. Steel is a very strong component, but only when protected (especially from that harsh and corrosive salty Vancouver fog). Takeaway, look to clear nail polish as a temporary protectant.
Making 'em last:
Finally, here is an article on some of the keys for making your vehicle last to 300, 400 thousand or even a million miles. Now, the first tip is to change the oil every 3,000 miles, which is an outdated myth that we have written about here more times than we like to count, on the other hand, we don't have any vehicles approaching anything near 500,000 miles.
